Baur attended the University of Chicago as both an undergraduate and graduate student from 1935 to 1942, taking courses from Herbert Blumer, Ernest W. Burgess, Everett C. Hughes, Alfred R. Radcliffe-Brown, W. Lloyd Warner, Louis Wirth, and other social scientists. Materials from these courses comprise the bulk of the collection.
